Jayda Gilliard of Clemson University named recipient of 2022 Poulin | WIlley | Anastopoulo Second Chance Scholarship
Clemson, SC [9.28.22] - Jayda Gilliard of Easley, South Carolina, was awarded with a $2,500 scholarship on the campus of Clemson University Thursday morning. She is one of two recipients of the Poulin | Willey | Anastopoulo’s [d.b.a. Anastopoulo Law Firm] ‘Second Chance Scholarship.’ The Second Chance Scholarship is awarded to High School Seniors from across the state of South Carolina. Applicants submitted a personal statement in the form of an essay answer to prompt (1) how being involved in a traumatic motor vehicle wreck has changed the applicants life and affected their future, or (2) how the side effect of an injury by pharmaceuticals has changed the applicants life and affected their future. Jayda submitted an essay addressing her experience regarding the second prompt.
Jayda’s entry said: “[After] an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery… I was prescribed Percocet, which is a drug that contains a combination of oxycodone, an opioid, and acetaminophen, a non-opioid, that works to relieve pain. I was discharged after the surgery and began taking the medication.” Her surgeon had not discussed the effect of prescription Percocet with her. She goes on to say “I suddenly went into anaphylactic shock…my throat and eyes had severe swelling, my nose started running uncontrollably, and it began to get difficult to breathe...I was rushed to the hospital… but if I had been given information about the possible side effects of taking my prescription, I feel like I would have been much more prepared for my reaction.”
“We are honored to offer financial aid to rising scholars throughout South Carolina each year via The Second Chance Scholarship. We look forward to granting many more students this tuition assistance while they persevere through adversity. We encourage students to submit scholarship essays for the 2023-2024 academic year.” - Brian Stellwag, Director of Marketing and Communications for the law firm.
Poulin | Willey | Anastopoulo will be announcing the other recipient of the firm's Second Chance Scholarship Thursday of next week.
